Samsung delaying completion of US chip plant due to lack of customers

South Korea's Samsung has invested billions in the U.S. and plans further spending to expand chipmaking capacity there. UMC Reports Sales for June 2025

Not bad but for a boutique foundry but TSMC will grow 35-40% this year. Margins for UMC in 2024 were 32%, margins for TSMC in 2024 were 56%. Expect even better margins for TSMC in 2025. UMC will probably be the same.

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

18A is not a flop. The 18A PDK flopped for external use, different thing. From what I am told 18A yield is good. If 14A does not yield Intel will be fabless. Hopefully Lip-BU put a hold on HNA-EUV to reduce risk. I still say Intel could do deals with Samsung, GlobalFoundries, etc... like...

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

3 weeks. Looking forward to it. Personally I think this call will be pivotal for Intel.

US lifts chip design software curbs against China following London trade talks

True. Last time that happened was our 40th anniversary and she did not back down but I did get a happy wife and happy life. Gotta pick your battles carefully.

US lifts chip design software curbs against China following London trade talks

I'm the same way with my wife. I asked for a $1M sailboat and we settled on one for $250k. She really negotiated me down. Before That I told her I wanted a motorcycle. End up with a new Porsche Convertible . She really got me on that one. :ROFLMAO:

NXP plans to close four 8-inch wafer fabs and expand production capacity to 12-inch wafers

As a leader in automotive chips, NXP's transformation is in line with the demand for automotive chips to evolve towards high integration and low power consumption, especially in the fields of smart cockpits and autonomous driving, which require 12-inch support for advanced processes. Currently...

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

I am not aware of any 18A external tape-outs thus far and that includes Amazon and Microsoft. Maybe we will hear more real about customers on the next investor call. With the staffing cuts that is going to be a big call.

Taiwan's No. 2 chipmaker UMC eyes entering cutting-edge race

TSMC has the lowest cost manufacturing so yes they could price Intel and the rest of the foundries out of the market. Bad strategy though unless you want to be investigated by foreign governments. The funny thing about Samsung Foundry is that they have both the lowest wafer prices and the...

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

What a ridiculous title. Intel Foundry never had a shot at Apple business. Is this the same person? Or did AI steal an identity? https://www.linkedin.com/in/naumanhk/ Intel (INTC) May Kill 18A in Billion-Dollar Bid for Apple, Nvidia Nauman khan Wed, July 2, 2025 at 4:58 AM PDT Yahoo is...

Chipmakers get larger tax credits in Trump’s latest ‘big beautiful bill’

Key Points - Under President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” passed by the Senate, tax credits for semiconductor firms building capacity in the U.S. could rise to 35% from an existing rate of 25%. - Companies eligible for the credits could include chipmakers such as Intel, Taiwan...

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

Exclusive usually = hit piece. Unnamed sources etc... Lip-Bu is out talking to customers so the foundry strategy may change. The truth of the matter is that Intel 18A is a great process but it missed the market window for the big fabless customers. Rather than chase 3rd and 4rth tier...

Exclusive: Intel's new CEO explores big shift in chip manufacturing business

The question I have is why did it take four people to write this article when AI could have done a better job? Modern media is going to get cremated by AI.

TSMC's AI Breakthrough: Path to a $90 Billion Windfall

Charles Shi has a PhD in Material Science from Berkley and worked at Applied Materials. That is the kind of analyst I listen to: “Using TSMC's publicly stated AI revenue target (~$90B by 2029) and AI accelerator outlook (~50MM units by 2030), we developed our AI wafer demand model and found...

Samsung Foundry to mass produce 1.4㎚ in 2029… Focus on ‘recovery of operating rate’

That would be good to know. Samsung Electronics is $200B+ and chips are inside all of their products I would assume. They do use QCOM SoCs for phones but they also have their own processor for the Korean market. In the US it is QCOM. Other countries vary. We have a Samsung TV and Samsung...

Samsung Foundry to mass produce 1.4㎚ in 2029… Focus on ‘recovery of operating rate’

This tracks with what I am hearing in the trenches. Samsung Foundry will die a slow and silent death supporting only internal demand and select key customers. The race for the leading edge processes is over. TSMC has won again. This is also good news for Intel Foundries 14A. Hopefully Lip-Bu is...
