At the GSA Silicon Summit this afternoon there was a discussion of 3D IC and 2.5D IC. The session was moderated by Javier DeLaCruz of eSilicon and the panelists were:
    • Calvin Cheung of ASE (an OSAT)
    • Gil Lvey of OptimalTest (a test house)
    • Bob Patti of Tezzaron (semiconductor company specializing in TSV-based designs)
    • Riko Radojcic of Qualcomm (you don't need me to tell you what they do)

I'm at the GSA Silicon Summit today, at the computer history museum. The first panel session this morning was about future process technology. It was moderated by Joe Sawicki of Mentor with a panel consisting of Rob Aitken from ARM, Paul Farrar of G450C, Peter Huang of TSMC, John Kibarian of PDF Solutions and someone from Applied Materials whose name I didn't note down but doesn't appear in the program.

There have been two constants ...

Yesterday was Dan Niles's economic review that he presents quarterly for GSA. As always he starts from big macroeconomic picture and ends up looking at the implications for semiconductor end-markets and thus the implication for semiconductors in general and the fabless ecosystem in particular.

The big picture is that the developed markets such as US, Japan and some of Europe seem ...

This year marks the 20th anniversary of GSA and collaboration around the foundry and fabless ecosystem. Originally GSA was FSA, the fabless semiconductor association. There was a semiconductor associations 20 years ago, the SIA, but that was still the "real men have fabs" era and fabless semiconductor companies were not considered "real" semiconductor companies and so were excluded. Now, of course, nobody would claim companies like ...

Every year the GSA holds the GSA Silicon Summit. This year it is on April 10th at the Computer History Museum. It runs from 9am until 2.15pm. This year the focus is mostly on technologies other than simply scaling semiconductor technology. The meeting is divided into 3 sessions, each of which starts with a presentation and then is followed by a panel session. The participants are ...

It was a dinner with more than a thousand semiconductor professionals from around the world keynoted by Author and Editor in Chief of Forbes Magazine Steve Forbes. What more could a humble blogger ask for? Even at $250 a plate it was well worth it just to mingle amongst the people who make this industry so great. ...
