    We are currently hiring a:

    Principal Technology Engineer - Smart Phone and Wearable Chipsets


    As the Principal Technology Engineer, you will identify, analyze and benchmark key trends, and forecast future trends, in the chipsets and architecture employed in smart phones, wearables and other high volume consumer electronic products that utilize leading edge semiconductor devices. As the TechInsights expert, your role will be to share your expertise and in-depth knowledge in System Architecture and to contribute content for blogs. You will also have the ability to study device designs of all major smart phones and to analyze these chips from the board level to the individual transistor.

    If you enjoy international travel, this role requires interacting with semiconductor companies 5 to 6 times throughout the year and also presenting at industry seminars.

    Key Responsibilities:

    · Collaborate with and subject matter experts in Sensors/Process/SoC Design to analyze and review the findings from laboratory analysis of mobile and consumer devices
    · As required, assist in the analysis of devices to balance the work load of the entire Technology Intelligence team
    · Work with teardown specialists, systems laboratory, and TechInsights marketing to make decisions on what devices receive more attention than others
    · Review in-depth TechInsights’ teardown and SoC-level analyses to find innovation in system architecture and design; create competitive benchmarks which summarize these findings clearly for clients as in-depth technology analysis reports and analyst briefings
    · Monitor new mobile and consumer products, as well as emerging industries, providing roadmaps of innovation
    · Prepare and/or contribute to customer-facing presentations and/or technical reports. Reports will range from analyst opinions to summary of engineering evidence observed through the course of the analysis
    · Travel globally to customers to provide technical/engineering-level presentations with emphasis on our recent engineering analysis of various devices
    · Act as an internal consultant for system architecture related inquiries, from both technical intelligence and patent services business units
    · Provide input to new businesses and or product offerings for the semiconductor industry
    · Monitoring public and subscription-based industry news as well as the combined non-confidential information / trends gained through customer dialogues in order to:
    o Stay current with advancements, news, IP in the semiconductor industry
    o Identify new devices and/or systems components that merit further analysis
    · Author and contribute to various TechInsights’ technology blogs and or white papers for industry conferences and or technology periodicals
    o These external papers for non-subscribers shall not release information that our subscribers are paying for


    • PhD or Masters of Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science with emphasis on hardware, software, and control algorithms
    • 10+ years of experience in development of mobile systems and SoCs or related field
    • In-depth understanding of mobile systems, power delivery and SoC architectures, including hardware/software interaction
    • Hands-on experience in hardware/software prototyping and debug
    • Experience in thermal design and thermal measurement techniques is a plus
    • Very Comfortable speaking to small and large audiences that are predominantly made of peers and / or TechInsights customers
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, manage multiple conflicting priorities; managing many system analysis projects with various project leads
    • Excellent written communication skills to produce regular reports, analyst briefings and or in-depth technical analysis reports for customers
    • Legally eligible to work in Canada
    • Ability to travel internationally for client visits and conference attendance
    • Fluent in English; the ability to converse in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean is considered an asset
