    EDA Mergers and Acquisitions Wiki

A Compilation of EDA and Semiconductor IP Company Merger Listing All the Logos a Company Owns
This list is a compilation over many years of mergers and acquisitions in the EDA and Semi IP market. The original compilation was done by an individual (Ian Getreu [1]) and is not an official list associated with any company or organization. Companies that have not bought or merged with other companies are not included in the list.

There is no guarantee of accuracy or completeness. Mergers and acquisitions that were not announced via press releases are probably not included. We welcome any additions and corrections.

The original objective was simply to list the number of logos owned by a company. So, if company A bought company B and was then bought by company C, this would be listed via indentations as:

    Company C
    Company A
    Company B
    (****SO**** means a Spin-Out)

Great EDA family tree - couple of additions

Great list of EDA family tree! Couple missing are Aida and Case Technology. They were both startup companies acquired by Teradyne in the late 80's. Teradyne formed an EDA division - Teradyne EDA - and included their board test simulator, Lasar V6, with their acquisitions. Aida had ATPG, hardware and software-based logic simulation and static timing analysis; Case had schematic capture, PCB design, simulation environment, etc. Aida was eventually sold to CrossCheck in 1992. CrossCheck became part of Duet. Not sure what happened to Case Technology.

What, what a great set of information! I've long wanted to do this. I wanted to present it as a timeline or graph, but couldn't decide on a way to do it. I looked at Graphviz, but couldn't get it to do what I had in mind. Any thoughts on representing the lineage graphically?

    John,
You are absolutely right, a graphical approach makes the info more appealing to digest. I'm open to ideas...

Love this resource -- it's a trip down memory lane. How about including the year and, if available, acquisition amount ($) and link to the press release/announcement?
