    VTI was before Compass

    Hello,

Remember that VTI (VLSI Technologies Inc.) was parent of Compass Design Automation. Compass was subsequently acquired to become Avant! which in turn was bought by Synopsys.

    Applicon ?

    Hello,

Remember Applicon (a division of Schlumberger in 1980s) had a PDP-11 and VAX based IC design and PCB design systems --- Bravo set of tools. This was in late 1970s and mid 1980s. See <Applicon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia> for more details.

    Raj,

Thank you for the comment on Compass and VLSI.

If I remember correctly, VLSI bought Compass. Compass was an independent company first. It was then sold to Avant!

My objective in creating this list was to count the number of logos an EDA company owned.
So by purchasing Compass, Avant! owned the Compass logo - it did not own the VLSI logo. The transition of Compass through VLSI was not relevant for the purpose of counting logos. It was extremely relevant for the people involved and in looking at the history of the company, of course.

VTI in mid-1990s had decided focus on chip fab and to spin-off its CAD tools business as Compass Design Automation. See History of VLSI Technology, Inc. – FundingUniverse for some more details. -- Raj

    Raj,

I did remember that VTI decided to spin off its CAD tools as a separate business. I believe you are right about Compass - Compass did not exist before being spun out.

From a "logo counting" perspective, however, whether Compass existed before or was spun out of VTI, the result is the same.

Thank you for your interest and comment.

    Hi
    Great lineup, very useful
One thing I noticed is that Icera is now owned by Nvidia (from June 2011 NVIDIA Completes Acquisition of Icera, a Leader in Wireless-Modem, RF Technology - NVIDIA Newsroom), since it had all but ceased to operate previous to that. It give Nvidia baseband capability to add to the Tegra lineup, to compete directly with Qualcomm
