ARM TechCon 2015 Preview!

ARM TechCon 2015 Preview!
by Daniel Nenni on 11-04-2015 at 12:00 pm

Of all the live events I attend ARM TechCon is one of my favorites. The keynotes are always very good but the real meat of the conference is who attends because that is who the content is specifically developed for:

As the chasm between hardware engineers and software developers yields to a more integrated and collaborative design environment, these communities now work synergistically to accelerate time to market and optimize their designs utilizing both hardware and software. ARM TechCon 2015 at the Santa Clara Convention Center is designed to facilitate this collaboration by connecting the hardware and software communities in one event…

Bottom line: You won’t see a lot of empty suits walking around the show floor. Here are this year’s keynotes:

Mike Muller
Chief Technology Officer | ARM

Innovation is Thriving in Semiconductors

The human capacity to find a path past difficult challenges is astonishing. Though traditional silicon scaling is more complex at advanced geometries, electronics design innovation is more robust than ever as engineers devise new ways to improve the latest chips. ARM CTO Mike Muller will describe advances in design innovation spanning low power, trust, and architectural innovation all the way from sensors to server and beyond. And he’ll unveil the latest technology achievements from ARM in his signature lively, humorous and engaging style.

Mike Muller was appointed chief technology officer in October 2000 and joined the board of directors in 2001. If you haven’t met Mike you should. Nice guy and very approachable.

Simon Segars
Chief Executive Officer | ARM

Building Trust in a Connected World

Centuries ago, Da Vinci might have been envisioning the world of today when he said “everything connects to everything else.” The rise of the design ecosystem that has fostered rich experiences for technology users has been rooted in connection at all levels. But the innovation and productivity gains that these new connections enable also bring three key challenges for the electronics design ecosystem. ARM CEO Simon Segars will outline paths to ensure that the future connected world can scale through collaboration, common standards, and deeply ingrained trust. These principles apply from the smallest sensors to servers in the cloud and include both hardware and software. He’ll also be joined by industry experts for a lively panel discussion about building trust in an age in which we need to find all the flaws in the system, while hackers need to find just one.

Simon Segars is the Chief Executive Officer of ARM and serves on its Board of Directors. Segars joined ARM in 1991 as its 16th employee where he led the development of the ARM7 and ARM9 processor families.

Danny Kaye
Executive Vice President, Global Research and Technology Strategy | Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
Delivering Hollywood From Silver Screen to Mobile Screen

Robert Clark
Senior Director | Development, Oracle
Broadening Innovations Horizons

Eric Klein
Partner | Lemnos Labs
Broadening Innovations Horizons

Colt McAnlis
Developer Advocate | Google
The Hard Things About the Internet of Things

And did I mention that ARM turns 25 this month? So expect some extra fun outside of the program. As I may have mentioned a dozen times before, Don Dingee and I just finished a book on the history of ARM and the devices they inspired. Out of all of the companies I work with in the fabless semiconductor ecosystem you will be hard pressed to find a company with a more colorful history or a bigger impact on the semiconductor industry than ARM. And this year’s ARM TechCon will make a nice epilogue to our book, absolutely.
